Its national peanut butter day!

This is something to go nuts about……its National Peanut Butter Day! Okay, we tried, we shall leave the puns to the experts.

Why are we celebrating peanut butter? It is an AMAZING tool we use during a Fear Free visit. Generally speaking, most pups adore peanut butter. We use it when are giving an exam, drawing blood, trimming nails or any other treatment. Peanut butter on a spoon, pretzel stick, or lick mat can be the secret to success!

Whilst this smooth or crunchy treat is a great tool, like with any food, moderation is key! Peanut butter is high in fat and should never be given in large amounts. Some pets can be allergic to peanuts so that is worth taking into consideration when giving this treat.

It is also important to look at the ingredients on the jar of peanut butter you have. There are some that contain grape jelly, chocolate, and xylitol and that can have devastating effects on a dog. Please steer clear of these jars. Read more about xylitol here.

There are some great ways for your pet to be entertained using peanut butter. You can spread some on a Licki Mat mixed with other fun treats such as pumpkin. Filling a Kong with peanut butter can also be a great boredom buster for a pet. Follow these tips from KONG and Lickimat on fun ways to give peanut butter to your pet.
