#ShopSmall in Loudoun County this holiday season

Thanksgiving is over and now we’ve all got one thing on our minds – holiday shopping! Instead of getting stressed out battling the crowds at the malls and browsing the same old goods at big box stores, take advantage of the wealth of unique small businesses right here in Leesburg and all around Loudoun County. Kick off your holiday shopping by getting out on Small Business Saturday this weekend. Launched by American Express in 2010 as a way to promote shopping at our local, independent mom-and-pop shops, Small Business Saturday has grown to have as much prominence as it’s weekend retail cousins Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Last year, over 95 million people went out to support local small businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and continue to support local retailers throughout the entire year.
We might not be a traditional retailer, but Leesburg Veterinary Hospital is proud to be a local small business, a part of the Loudoun County community for the past thirty years!
To promote shopping small in our area this season, the staff at Leesburg Veterinary Hospital are sharing some of their favorite local shops and restaurants. Get our advice then get out this weekend and support our community by #shoppingsmall in Loudoun County.
Melissa Davis, Office Manager:
Alter’d State clothing & gift boutique in the Village at Leesburg offers really unique clothing, jewelry footwear, home decor goods, and lots of gift ideas! Their prices are reasonable and charitable giving is a huge part of their business mission.
Additionally, I like MacDowell Brew Kitchen for a varied beer selection, good pub grub and an outdoor “Beach Bar” complete with sand and a boat that is pet-friendly!

Rouge Spa is a great beauty destination in historic downtown Leesburg. Here you can be pampered with personalized facials and body treatments and find unique skincare and beauty items. A perfect place to pick up a gift certificate or beauty gift!
Who doesn’t love Blue Ridge Grill! I particularly love the relaxed dining room and delicious without-being-pretentious American cuisine!
Dr. Lauren Kloer
My favorite dining place is MELT in Leesburg. They fully support the Loudoun County Animal Shelter by donating all of their tips to the shelter. (They’ve raised and donated $90,000 to the shelter thus far!)
Amy Bosley, Events and Social Media Coordinator
I love so many of our local businesses and restaurants. I love to shop at The Shabby Cottage in Hamilton – a true local business that has unique home goods I can’t find anywhere else. I also love Jenny’s Hair Salon in Purcellville. They make every client feel special with amazing results! For my kids, we take dance lessons, at Bella Ballerina.
For an amazing local dining experience, Lightfoot Resturant is the place to be! The food is excellent and its setting in historic downtown Leesburg is the perfect representation of our area. (Full disclosure, many of us at LVH love Lightfoot!)
Dr. Betsy Henly
I love shopping at Blue Mount Nursery in Ashburn. It’s a family-oriented independent garden center that’s been a part of the Loudoun County community for twenty years! They have a large selection of trees, shrubs, and annuals, and then seasonal goods like pumpkins and gourds in the fall and trees, wreaths and a ton of items to trim the tree in December! This time of year is an especially fun time to shop or just browse their winter wonderland!
Dr. Jennifer Boyle
I love Everyday Elegance in Purcellville. I’m able to find unique furniture for my house and decorations for the holidays. They have so much many unique finds including accessories and art – the perfect place to go when I’m looking to update or add something new!
Jennifer Korinchak, Marketing Manager
Wylie Wagg is the best local pet food store with several locations in Northern Virginia. Their customer service is top-notch – they helped me pick out the perfect food for my cats when I adopted them in 2010, and I highly attribute their overall good health, digestion and shiny coat to their high-quality diet. They also have a wide assortment of pet accessories and carriers and support many local rescues by holding adoption events at their stores. I shopped at both the Falls Church and Fairfax stores when I lived in Vienna, but they also have a store in Middleburg too!
